Series: Live the Story, Tell the Story
Session 2 – Your Story, God’s Mission
Texts: 2 Kings 5 + 1 Peter 3:13–17
Big Idea
Naaman’s healing began with the quiet courage of a servant girl who simply shared what she knew of Israel’s God. Peter calls every believer to “always be prepared to give an answer…with gentleness and respect.” Your personal story of meeting Jesus—no matter how ordinary it feels—is one of God’s chosen ways to open hearts.
Opening Question (5 min)
When has someone’s personal story of faith—big or small—moved you toward God or encouraged you to keep trusting Him?
Scripture Snapshot (5 min)
Read this summary of 2 Kings 5:1–19
Naaman is the ultimate success story—a celebrated Syrian army commander, powerful and wealthy. But under the armor he hides a shameful secret: an untreatable skin disease.
On one of Syria’s raids, a young Israelite girl was captured and forced to serve Naaman’s wife. Though powerless and far from home, she speaks up with quiet faith: “If only my master would visit the prophet in Samaria, he could be healed.”
Naaman follows the political playbook. His king sends a royal letter and extravagant gifts to Israel’s king, expecting a grand display. Instead the king panics—he can’t heal anyone—and Elisha, the prophet of Israel’s God, summons Naaman directly.
Naaman arrives with chariots and status expecting spectacle. But Elisha doesn’t even step outside. He sends a messenger with a simple, humbling instruction: “Go wash seven times in the muddy Jordan River, and you’ll be clean.”
Insulted, Naaman fumes—aren’t Syria’s rivers better? Yet his servants plead with him to obey. Finally he steps into the Jordan, dips seven times, and emerges with skin like a child.
Overwhelmed, Naaman confesses, “Now I know there is no God in all the earth but in Israel.” He refuses payment and pledges allegiance to Israel’s God, even as he returns to serve a pagan king. Elisha blesses him: “Go in peace.”
Why it matters tonight:
God’s grace crosses borders and upends every hierarchy. He heals not through rank, spectacle, or payment, but through humble obedience. The living God cannot be managed—He invites surrender, trust, and a public faith that carries His presence back into complicated places.

Shared Practice (10–15 min)
Workshop 30-Second Stories
Use the simple template:
Before – a sentence about life without Christ.
Encounter – how you met Jesus or a moment of surrender.
After – one way your life is different now.
Pair up and practice telling it aloud.
Individual Practice for the Week
Pray daily for one specific person in your life who may be curious or searching.
Look for a natural moment to share part of your story—perhaps just the “Before” or the “Encounter” piece.
Journal afterward: How did God meet you in the conversation?
